Chicken Divan?

Paula Deen, whose Food Network show has been a hit for years, just announced that she has Type 2 diabetes. She reports that she was diagnosed three years ago.

Ms. Deen, known for her recipes  laden with butter and sugar...

OK. I won't go there.

I will say this. Ms. Deen has a recipe for Chicken Divan she's been pushing for years. I don't know, nor do I wish to, the ingredients. What I have heard is this - Chicken Divan goes great with Paula's recipe for Couch Potatoes

Oh my GAWD...! So there I was on the sofa, icing my knee, and watching the Food Channel while doing today's crossword puzzle, and there's Paula making Chicken Divan! It looked like nothing but mayo, butter, sour cream, gravy, cheese...and whatever else goes into the dish.
I have thought that she and Ina Garten could/should do a series that highlights eating healthy. The two of them just get bigger and bigger...

Diabetes type 1 is a heartbreaking life sentence that is a completely different disease from the "self-induced" type 2.I get really angry when the 2 are confused. I ask every writer who comments on diabetes to know and RESPECT the difference.

My leg was so numb I couldn't get up to get the clicker to find something else (or to just nod off...).
Couch Potato personified--I hope, not for long...
The more you rest the more you rest the more you rest.
About to apply more ice. Let's see if I can do better this time around with the TV selections.
Maybe I will get going on the proposal for some Food Channel weight loss/ healthy meal shows as I sit there.

Even the Wall Street Journal didn't specify which type she has. In a story about her announcement in yesterdy's WSJ, all it said in the lead was " diabetes."

Good point, jwc.

So, now we know. Paula's type is something preventable and, with healthy eating, can be controlled? Isn't she now the spokesperson for the pharmecutical company whose drugs she is taking? And she has had this diagnosis for three years? Hmmmm...
I overheard some people discussing her situation today (had to get an x ray for my knee-the food channel was on and everyone was talking about Pauls's condition) an someone said she is also a chain smoker.
YIKES!

Certainly not the best week Paula's had in the past three years or so. I think JWC is spot on re this story. It's a lesson in what the ( big ) difference is between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Some good will come of this.
