Argo

Moriarty and I watched Argo, the film starring and directed by Ben Affleck. The movie is about a CIA plot to rescue six Americans who had a close call in Iran back during the Carter administration. They got out, but were not out of the Iranian woods, by any means. They weren't among the many hostages taken and held for 444 days.

There is much to be said about this flick. But one of my take aways is how the U.S. government and the Canadian government collaborated, worked together to get this thing done. And yeah. I can't help but think about...

That was then. This is now.

When Congress and the White House can't get together and solve a Big Problem.

When the Dems and the GOP are as far apart as those who speak Farsi are from those who speak with a southern and Brooklyn accent in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Argo is one hell of a movie, based on one hell of a story. That was kept secret for decades. There's so much we groundlings don't know. We rant and we rave about what went wrong in Benghazi.

Our rants are based on.

What?

We don't know shit. The guy Ben Affleck played was a hero. He got the highest award an intelligence officer can get. A medal. Then the medal was taken away from him a few seconds after he got it. There's so much we don't know. Benghazi?  I don't even want to go there. But if you're among those who are outraged by the " lack of good information " coming out of the White House..

Argo Fuck yourselves.

Terrysweetheartbabydarling,

I didn't know you when you were in the newspaper biz, but my guess is that you didn't get your inside information from Hollywood movies. What in the name of Allah makes you think that Argo is anything but some rich, isolated, right-brainer's tilted take on reality?

Affleck doesn't know any more about what happened than, say, Professor Irwin Corey knows. IT'S A MOOOVIE!

By the way, your final insult brought back fond memories of the old knock-knock joke. To quote newsman Brian "The Smirk" Williams, "Thanks for that."

My. If you were still in Mass. I'd be tempted to ask if thre was too much snow.

But then... I do agree. The world has gone mad. I'm glad I'm the age I am.

Rain at the Breachway. Won't be long now.

Have you seen Argo?

I loved it, but had serious doubts about the truth of it. Did it really happen like THAT? I asked myself several times. Then I thought better. It's only a movie. A story BASED on a true story. And thank goodness for folks who dare to use the right side of their brains to share their tilted takes on reality. Yeah. I'm thinking about Shakespeare's " history " plays. There's more truth in his fiction than... You know what I'm sayin'.

is there a difference between a government witholding information and out-right lying in order to put themselves in a better light to not appear incompetent or criminal? I'll bet during the "Watergate Era" you were all for demands of people for the administration to come clean and if they had told the public to argo fuck themselves you'd be outraged, btw still love Em-Kel.

Heard a great analysis of TRUTH and the stretching of it in movies...artistic license...Lincoln, Argo, JFK...the fear being that in the future when no one reads anymore, students and educators will rely on the movies to tell the story, often inaccurately.
But historians have often told their version of the truth, and our history books have been filled with blatently erroneous information.I hope this subject continues to be discussed, either in the comments section of Terry's blog or as a continuing subject we revisit here in The Webtown Observer.

Mr. Collins

Points well taken re Watergate. Then and now. I'm more conservative now re what government needs to do to protect us. That Jack quote in A Few Good Men hit a chord, as did the rest of his rant about what guys like his character and the troops do to allow us to live cushy lives way behind the lines.

jc.... I think we'll be ok in the future. These takes on history are just takes. Shakespeare wrote a lot of history plays, embellished. Put words and thoughts in his historical characters and the groundlings heads. We've survived.
