What's the big deal? This happens often. Every 600 years or so.
The Pope announced his abdication today. He's hanging up his cleats. Choosing not to do what Willie Mays did. Play one more year than he should have.
The Pope is 85. Says he doesn't have the energy to do what needs to be done. Travel to Lima? Mexico City? Belfast? He doesn't think so.
I'm decades younger. And there are days when I don't have the energy to drive to Wal-Mart, which isn't exactly a ten hour plane trip away.
Good for the Pope. His decision was wise. And I also give him credit for not saying, " I want to spend more time with my family."

Terry! Until your last sentence, I was sure you had bought into the "It's just time to leave my post" explanation. Stay tuned, folks...

jc...It could be argued he's breaking the 11th commandment. Thou shalt not abdicate. Is this pope more feeble than any pope in the past 600 years? These guys don't resign. There's more to this story than meets the eye.
The guy's smarter than any pope in the past 600 years.

Rove did it.
Is Cheney Catholic? This could be his swan song. Pope Been A Dick. He had a heart transplant last year. Maybe he's not Catholic, but maybe his heart once beat in the chest of a Catholic. Now that would be a story that could match The DiVinci Code.
"more to this story than meets the eye"....care to speculate? I want you to continue follow-up on this statement. Being an old reporter perhaps you can smell a rat better than I.
Be better if Cheney got the heart of a Democrat... a leberal one at that... that'd be a hoot!
